Volunteer Your Time and Skills
Cabot Habitat for Humanity is making a difference – one house and one family at a time. But we could never accomplish our mission of building homes, hope and community without the support of our countless dedicated volunteers who come to our builds, donate building materials, or serve on committees throughout the year. Volunteer dedication is the only reason we are able to build homes in the St. John’s/Mt. Pearl area.
Volunteers come from all walks of life, and construction experience is not a requirement. Many of our year-round committees need people who are skilled in other areas such as administration, IT, and communications. We also need volunteers willing to cook and serve food and refreshments at a build, coordinate volunteers, do landscaping or a host of other tasks.
And if you don’t have construction experience, you might just gain some. In fact our whole program relies almost exclusively on individual community and corporate volunteers who support our mission of assisting low-income, working families achieve home-ownership.
Ways you can help:
• Volunteer at
a build – cook, serve, hammer, paint, whatever.
• Donate tools / product(s) to a build.
• Make a tax-deductible gift, memorial donation or Planned Gift.
• Join a committee or inquire about becoming a member of our Board of
Directors
If you have served as a volunteer in the past, possess good people skills and can work with all different kinds of people; and are looking for a rewarding experience in your community, we'd like to hear from you.
Comments
from our Volunteers
“Volunteering with Habitat has afforded me the opportunity to learn
many new skills including the ability to renovate my own home. I have also
met some great people, learned organizational skills, and even showed others
some skills on a build that I have learned. But what I enjoy the most is at
the end of the build, the look of happiness when the keys are finally turned
over to a family. It means that I have participated in an event that will
change someone else’s life and make a better one for them."
Cathy Carroll (Provincial Gov't Worker)
"To me, working with Habitat, meant that I had the opportunity to help someone else have a house to call home. The people on site were knowledgeable and skilled, showed you how to do the job needed, and gave encouragement while you were working. I learned many new skills. I met some truly dedicated, selfless volunteers, whom I am sure I would never have had the chance to meet otherwise. Habitat was a personally satisfying experience for me. My sister and I volunteered together and plan to do it again." Marian Dawe (Retired Teacher)
"As a volunteer,
I feel very proud and humble in knowing I played a small role in helping another
family move into a new home."
