Cabot Habitat for Humanity (HFH), an affiliate of Habitat for Humanity Canada, was incorporated as a charitable, non-profit organization in May 1994 to serve the communities of St. John's and Mount Pearl. The organization works with low-income families to help them realize the dream of home-ownership and enables them to accept a no-interest, affordable mortgage. To date, Cabot HFH has assisted more than 30 families, with a combined number of more than 115 children, in becoming first-time homeowners. Habitat brings together community people of all backgrounds to build hope and pride in families who would otherwise not be able to qualify for a conventional mortgage.

The screening and assessment process involves reviewing the documents submitted as well as other means as determined by the Family Selection Committee . Interviews are then held with families who are screened into the process and accepted based on the documents received. Members of the Family Selection Committee will complete these interviews. If successful, a recommendation will then be made to the Cabot Habitat Board of Directors for final approval.

The Release of Information Consent Form helps us verify the information submitted with your application. By signing this form you give Cabot HFH permission to contact any agency or person named in your application.

All applications are kept during the screening process and selection process. Applicants are informed of the status of their application. If approved, the application will remain on file. All personal information will be kept confidential. Only office staff and the Family Selection Committee will have access to your file. However, if not accepted, all personal information is returned to the applicant within 30 days of notice.

If accepted as a Cabot Habitat for Humanity Homeowner:

•  You will be required to complete 500 hours of Sweat Equity into volunteering for Cabot HFH projects, including the development of Habitat homes. Your sweat equity team can include extended family or friends.
