Cabot Habitat for Humanity
has begun planning for its 2010 build season! We are currently seeking applications
for several volunteer positions and committees. Applications will be accepted
on an ongoing basis until all positions are filled. Please see below for descriptions
of the available positions.

- House
Captain
- This person must work well with people and have good organizational skills.
The house leader’s responsibilities are very similar to those of the
Site supervisor, except that the House Leader is responsible for a single
house when there is more than one house being built on the same site. Responsibilities
include overseeing the construction of one house (from start to finish),
coordinating and advising Crew Leaders in completing individual tasks, providing
on-the-job training and supervision for semi-skilled and unskilled volunteers,
ensuring the safety of volunteers and ensuring that safety practices are
followed and maintaining quality.

- Skilled
Tradespeople
- Those familiar with the all aspects of residential house construction,
i.e carpenters. We will also require the services of skilled electricians
and plumbers.
- Fundraisers
- Habitat has numerous fundraisers throughout the year. These range from
walk-a-thons, silent auctions and special events like the Home Show. Volunteer
opportunities range from sitting on the fundraising committee, volunteering
at the events, soliciting donations or selling tickets.

Build Procurement Committee
- seeks donations of materials and resources for Habitat builds.
- Family
Partnering Committee
- seeks to welcome new homeowners into the Habitat family. The committee
is the primary liaison between the affiliate and the families and helps
with all aspects of homeownership.
- Food
Services Committee
- arranges meals for volunteers of Habitat builds.
- Public
Relations Committee - shares Habitats mission with the community.
The Committee continually seeks to raise and maintain the community’s
awareness of Habitat’s work. Creative design or writing skills, as
well as an interest in working with the media are assets to joining this
committee, whose members: Plan and organizing media requirements (radio,
TV, news, etc…) for the affiliate and events, develop fact sheets,
press releases, brochures, newspaper articles, etc., ensure the website
and all media items are up-do-date, create the affiliate newsletter and
help committees with their media needs.
- Safety,
Health and Environment Committee - provides safety training
and supervision on build sites.
- Volunteer
Committee - Seeks to recruit, utilize, retain and recognize
volunteers in order to carry out the ministry of Habitat for Humanity. Volunteers
are the backbone of Habitat.
- Build
Site Host Team - Would you prefer a non-construction role?
Are you comfortable with meeting new people and navigating a build site?
Do you like to laugh, and assist others? Being a build site host might be
the perfect fit for you! The Build Site Host Team is responsible to set
up and manage the site, register daily volunteers, organize people, refreshments
and materials - and generally support the day-to-day on-site operations.
